Steel strip expertise in the growing Mexican market

Our new cold-rolling mill is being built in Saltillo, in the state of Coahuila—a major industrial hub in the greater Monterrey area of Mexico. With this project, Waelzholz is strategically expanding its global production and service network to include a key location in North America.

Starting in mid-2028, the new factory—covering an area of approximately 60,000 square meters—will produce up to 50,000 metric tons of customized, cold-rolled steel materials per year. The focus will be on low and high carbon steel, as well as micro-alloyed steel and HSLA steel. In addition, the Waelzholz Group’s full range of materials will be available to local customers. The facility is expected to employ approximately 100 people in the future.

The new location is situated in close proximity to major automakers and suppliers, enabling Waelzholz to serve as a regional source for high-quality cold-rolled steel strip and to offer short delivery routes, high supply reliability, and close technical collaboration with customers.

Together with the service center in Cleveland, Ohio, USA, this creates a high-performance regional network for manufacturing, distribution, and service. The new factory covers the entire process chain of cold rolling technology: from rolling to heat treatment to cutting.

At the heart of production is a 4-high rolling mill, an identical model of which has already been installed at the production sites in China and Brazil. For the project in Mexico, Waelzholz is drawing on the expertise and experience of the teams that were already involved in the two previous capacity expansions. The technical redundancy of the production lines will help the company deliver on its promise of offering the same high level of quality worldwide, while also increasing supply reliability for customers.

Production capacity in Mexico has been designed from the outset to be scalable up to 100,000 metric tons per year. In this way, Waelzholz is laying the foundation for further growth in the dynamic North American market.
