Fine blanking is needed when cut surfaces are also functional surfaces in the end product, requiring them to be smooth as well as free of lacerations and tears. Applications include closure systems for automobile doors as well as the cut surfaces of sprockets, which are decisive in ensuring optimal gearing and long life cycles.
Here at Waelzholz we have developed a unique manufacturing concept for our fine blanking grades. Case-hardening steels, steels for hardening and tempering and spring steels are the three types of cold rolled steel strip which are most suitable for fine blanking. In addition to cementite globularization of greater than 98 percent, another prerequisite for the suitability of a material for fine blanking is the exact set-up of a very low yield/tensile ratio.
